I read the book as part of an sescond-language english class (ran by a male-teacher, by the way). I didn’t like it that much, I found it boring.
There’s something I understood by the time I was reading Asterix (age 8) that you don’t seem to get yet; A BOOK IS A BOOK. It’s fiction. I knew that Goscinny and Uderzo never intended me to slug everyone I saw with a roman accent. They knew I knew there was no magic potion and back then, people didn’t see it as an incitation to take drugs. IT’S A bleeep BOOK!

You were programmed to leave all imagination behind and follow another book. No wonder you don’t know what fiction is like.
