Confusion, chaos and alliteration... Here's your guide to understanding editorial cartoons. First and foremost, cartoons are always 100% true. Cartoonists shun hyperbole and distortion to bring you the very best in journalism verité. Generalissimo hat, ear, epaulet. Cartoon of George W. Bush, Photo of George W. Bush. Good cartoons are always fair, as well as sensitive. Could someone be offended? If yes, it'll make for a terrible cartoon. What?! This cartoon takes issue with the efficiency of postal workers! How mean! SO much for that "cartoonist's" career! Actual depiction of Pulitzer discussion. Since all strong opinions are inherently arbitrary, every cartoon has its equal and opposite counterpart. I'm a dumb, non-elected idiot. But forget all that: editorial cartoonists always have to be funny! See, the beaver labeled "city police" is building a dam labeled "street patrols." And the water is labeled "rising crime." Now that's funny!
