Ted Rall for December 13, 2010
Transcript:
In a landmark decision, a Florida court has allowed a guy accused of murder to use makeup to cover his scary swastika tattoos. The judge didn't want the jury to hold the defendant's scary looks against him. But about the opposite? What if a guy looks handsome and charming. But he's really a brutal. Torturing, mass murderer? (Woman: He can't be as bad as all the evidence... he's so cute!) Shouldn't he be forced to look as bad as he is?
fennec, I think Rall is an aging “angry young man,” and his approach is closer to underground cartoonists who liked shaking things up. Doug Marlette wisely pointed out years ago that it is not the editorial cartoonists’ job to be fair, it was to make a point. I think this one was ill-conceived in execution, but the fundamental message is thought-provoking. But in the interest of getting a reaction, I think Rall sometimes goes over the top to make sure he gets it.
