We rescued 5 kittens and the mom from a bad neighborhood. She was living on the porch of the house with her babies. Someone has put the babies in a crate, but they had easily escaped so the situation was bad. When we got there the mom had caught a sparrow and given it to the kittens and was just waiting for them to eat it! No way those babies could eat that. Estimate their age at 4 weeks and still nursing. She was a friendly mom and an easy catch, she got into the carrier once we got the babies in there. All were quiet on the ride home. When we got there and got them into a large crate we fed them and I have never seen a cat eat like that mom did!!! She wolfed the food down, and at first would not let her babies eat but once the edge was off her appetite she relented and the babies walked onto the plate and ate. She continued to eat around them until all was gone. Still not sure she had milk, but was nursing them later and bathing them. All seem healthy except for some eye issues that cleaning and ointment take care of.
We found a foster for them as I have a full house of 12 cats and there is “no room at the inn” at the moment. But they should be fine. Mom is a Calico and the babies are a mixed bag of Calico and orange and white.
Apparently someone had advertised the babies on Craigs List..then abandoned them without food or water. The way humans treat animals, I don’t want to be angry or hate but they make it difficult.
