From yesterday’s comments to Happy, happy, happy!!! who said, “There is no feeling in the whole world like having a hummingbird land on your hand.”
I agree! I once held a hummingbird in my hand. One of my cats caught it and I got it away from the cat. I held it and inspected it for injuries. I could feel its heartbeat (so fast!). I wanted to hold it longer, because it felt so amazing to hold it, but I knew I had to let it go. It wasn’t hurt at all. I opened my hand and it flew off. They are such amazing little birds!
I do put out feeders for the hummingbirds, but only after seeing one in the yard. I don’t want to leave the sugar syrup out for weeks at a time if there are no hummers coming to feed. But I do grow flowers they like (like morning glories). So when they come to my flowers, I put out the feeders. I make my own sugar syrup for them. I usually only see them in late July or in August.
