This is pretty much the impression that Europeans have of what America is like. To some degree, it always has been. Hyperbole of course. Only 194 children under 13 were shot dead in the United States in the first year after Newtown. Fewer than one a day. And most of them probably brought it on themselves by being born into the wrong neighborhood or the wrong family. Most the country’s problems could be solved if babies were more careful about the families and the neighborhoods into which they are born. Location, location, location!
