In the ‘60s When the British started heading abroad on their package tours to Southern European countries, a spate of British themed pubs, bars & restaurants (ok, greasy-spoon cafés serving English breakfasts – that’s when English breakfasts were actually born btw) opened up all over in their favourite holiday destinations….so they wouldn’t have to eat the local food. :-/
Fortunately, the Chinese restaurant preceded the Chinese tourist… (although the Chinese might argue with us what we think is Chinese food ;-) )
London now caters for the discerning Chinese tourist/shopper. Many shops in Oxford & Bond streets have Chinese speaking staff, some have Chinese translations…
