Maduro certainly is a severe autocrat, i.e. a hidden or wannabe-dictator, like all the “elected” autocrats as Putin and Erdogan who manipulate the elections by closing newspapers and other media they don’t like, bringing journalists to jail (or kill them) etc. And I doubt that he asks himself “were did it go wrong” because that implies that he cares. Also, the head of Marx doesn’t fit because Maduro certainly is no socialist or communist, for many reasons. One of which is, that he is greedy and very rich himself, stealing from the people. Why is the “socialist”-label so often used by autocrats (like Hugo Chavez already was)? Because they want to get elected, and it would be difficult if they said, we are greedy gangsters and we shit on the welfare of the people. So they say the opposite, and that would be called socialism. Proponents of unfettered capitalism like that, because these autocrats destroy the reputation of socialism by linking this label to their dictatorial ambitions.
