Yes, but if the musicians get paid in beer (or other drinks – which I understand is fairly common for new and/or unknown performers), the barkeep/owner will be giving away product instead of selling it. The musicians will have to bring in more paying customers to offset the losses, which is by no means an easy thing to do.
