The restaurant our Dimwitted Duo are patronizing is Hugo’s Canton-Style Eatin, owned by Hugo Rodriguez, a regular character from Bobbins and Scary Go Round (and close friend of Ryan and Amy, as well as other characters not involved in Bad Machinery). (He once ran for mayor of Tackleford, but had to drop out after an assassination attempt was made by squirting the contents of a McDonald’s Hot Apple Pie in his face. That’s not relevant, I just always found it hilarious.)
The waitress in the last panel is Fallen Young, also from Bobbins and Scary Go Round. She was a something of a secret agent (although not necessarily a good one), and had dated Ryan for a while. After completing a freelance assassination job against another assassin, Rafael Dominguez (who was trying to take out the League of Enemies), the government decided she was too dangerous to be left loose. She was gassed, kidnapped, and sent to a mysterious Village of former spies, where she was labeled “Number 497”, although she eventually escaped and now works for Hugo. (Also not relevant, but it amused me.)
(Both Hugo and Fallon were encountered by Erin and The Boy at Mrs. Terry’s, but it’s not clear what was really happening there and if the whole thing was taking place in some pocket corner of reality; they appeared the same as they did in SGR, but then appeared at their proper ages outside of Mrs. Terry’s. This probably makes no sense whatsoever if you haven’t read any of the Tacklefordverse outside of Bad Machinery.)
None of this will actually be important to Bad Machinery’s story going forward, I just felt like pointing out the Easter eggs that newer fans wouldn’t notice.
