My wife and I were having an argument; the basis of which was that she assumed I was upset by something she did rather than another event. As part of the argument, I said, “You don’t know what I’m thinking. What am I thinking right now?”
Whereupon she flipped me the bird.
“Oh wow,” I responded, “You really do know what I am thinking!”
Whereupon the argument dissolved into a fit of laughter.
Now when faced with a potential misunderstanding, I’ll ask “What am I thinking?” I pretty much nips the argument in the bud.
