Cathy: It's a lovely gift if she thinks I spent $40 on it... ...It's not nearly as lovely if she find out it was on the $15.99 clearance rack. Saleswoman: It's still a $40 value! Cathy: But if she actually spends $40 on my gift, this gift is inferior...and if she buys me a $15.99 gift, this gift is too nice. Saleswoman: Sales to the public would go so much better if there weren't any humans involved.
