Woman: This is cute! Mrs. Hillman: I'm glad you like it. Woman: It's darling! Mrs. Hillman: Let me see! I forgot it had that tiny butterfly on it! Woman: I'll take it! Mrs. Hillman: You CAN'T take it! It's mine! Keep your paws off my little butterfly teapot! Cathy: How's it going? Mr. Hillman: No sales, but mother's just unloaded another neighbor.
A memory (I’m feeling very nostalgic; yesterday was my father’s funeral): My mother was the queen of yard sales, and just about every Saturday morning she would hit a few. She taught us all well about that. One year, when I was in high school, I was asked to audition for the All-State Chorus by one of the judges (he basically said that if I show up for the audition, I’m in; he knew I can’t read music but learned fast enough not to matter). My parents only had 1 car at the time and my father worked Saturday mornings, so I arranged with a friend who was also auditioning. That Saturday morning arrived, and my friend forgot me. I tried to arrange another ride, but no go. I was so upset. My younger brother, who was about 8 at the time, saw how upset I was and ran out of the house. He came home a few moments later. He had gone to a yard sale down the road and found a little ceramic statue of a girl in a purple dress (purple is my favorite color) and gave it to me to cheer me up.
