Strangely, school age kids lose their lives far more frequently in traffic accidents than from school shootings. But because vehicles are important and useful, (and because most of the deaths are of only one or a very few) we mostly accept the amount of carnage they cause… though of course we also try to make them safer: Cross walks, MADD, etc. But when we look at automatic weapons being used against school children (and teachers too), we find that such weapons have no countervailing value and are outraged (as we should be).
