Besides, there’s a bit more to mass extinctions than all that, and they are not all equal. I can’t remember science’s name for it offhand, but there was one mass extinction well predating that of the dinosaurs that killed off a much larger proportion of life on the planet than the asteroid that bumped off the dinos had, and scientists are pretty sure it was because of no asteroid (it’s thought sudden shifts in atmospheric conditions might have had something to do with it).
