Joanie: Left? For where? Rick: He said he couldn't tell me, but then, of course, he blurted it out... he's flying to Kabul with Overkill on his private jet. They have a meeting with President Karzai. Joanie: Karzai? Oh, my God - Jeff's in over his head again, isn't he? RIck: Yup. What's amazing is he never seems to notice. Jeff: Yo, feel my guns? Flight Attendant: I'll pass. Voice: Rascal! The briefing! Focus!
So, either Overkill’s a delusional nutcase, or for some dark plan he’s setting Jeff up to be some sort of fall guy.
In real life (or as real as life can get in these circumstances,) either way Jeff would be dead meat. However, since all of this occurs in the mind of Garry Trudeau Jeff will probably somehow come out of it. You will note that those notable “Doonesbury” characters who have died have never died violently.
