From a Mom’s perspective, sometimes the reason is that i just don’t want to deal with the effort and mess that the activity generates.
For example, I hate to go to the pool. Other than the fact that I don’t like the water myself, getting 2 kids into swimsuits, putting sunscreen on them, getting all the floats and stuff that are needed to keep my kids from drowning, going there, not relaxing while I’m there, coming back and cleaning it all up is EXHAUSTING!
But you can’t explain all that to a kid, so sometimes the answer is just “No, not today. Let’s go do something else”
