Bucky: Darn! Oh, how many treat bags must I find before I find one that' snot empty? Satchel: Is that a rhetorical question? Bucky: What's that? Satchel: Tell you what, I'll answer that after you answer this: "How many roads must a ma walk down?" ...Or "If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around, does it make a sound?" ..."What mends a broken heart?" ...And "What's the sound of one hand clapping?" Bucky: Ok, let's see: 42, yes, angioplasty, and um... Satchel: Ow. Bucky: ...something like that I imagine. So what's a rhetorical?
1) correct (at least according to the Hitchhiker’s Guide). 2) correct (the falling tree creates a compression wave through the air – that is a sound wave whether there is anything there to detect it or not). 3) There are a number of surgical procedures, but we’ll go with that one. 4) That was my first thought when I first heard that question, so I say correct. Bucky is unusually lucid in this strip.
