Mom: "And when the prince saw the beautiful girl, he doffed his hat-" Heart: What does "doffed" mean? Mom: It means he took his hat off. Heart: So why don't they just say, "He took his hat off"? Mom: I don't know, Heart. I didn't write it. Heart: Why don't they use words that kids know? "Doffed" is not a kid word. Mom: Personally, I think it's a big joke on the parents, who have to keep stopping to explain them. Heart: "Swoofed." Now that sounds like taking a hat off.
What’s all this ballyhoo then?
