Canbag, it’s true that profits add a layer of cost to American healthcare, but did you know that Medicare fraud accounts for $16 billion/year, more money than profits earned by the top 15 US health insurers - combined? The number one criminal enterprise in Florida used to be drug running - now, according to CBS, it’s Medicare fraud.
There’s a reason why Americans don’t trust their government to admistrate programs such as this, and the idea of doubling it raises some of our blood pressures. If we took out the “for profit” element and let our government handle it, we’d waste much more in new fraud than the profits savings!
