Transcript:
Delta: "Total bummer about drama camp, Luann. But how great that Quill's coming back!" Bernice: "Unfortunately, not in time for prom" Luann: "Yeah. I'll be alone in my room, skyping. You guys going?" Delta: "Nope. Got a greenpeace meeting" Bernice: "I wanna finish Anna Karenina" Luann: "I worry about us. If we get any wilder, we'll get arrested"
I dont think the girls are missing out on that much. My daughter went to prom a couple weeks ago. She said there weren’t even a lot of people there, and except for the fact that her long-term crush finally asked her out, the whole event was a bit of a letdown. Now she’s glad she bought a clearance rack dress – she looked just as beautiful as if she’d paid full price ;) – and her group decided to skip the limo and fancy dinner. Says she’s glad she had the experience but she probably won’t bother going next year.
Maybe it’s different here because she goes to a big city school where half the students are in AP and honors classes and many of them don’t seem to be hung up on appearances and having the latest Vera Bradley or Coach bag. It seems to me prom has gone through a stage like kids’ birthday parties, where it became all about outdoing everybody else.
