Un-purified of toxins these can have deadly and permanent effects on the poor victims.These people lived in very toxic times, little was known of chemistry, sanitation, and common sense.I would also also not be surprised this may have been caused by lead exposure or a possible parasitic infection.It may have been a combination of several things.
