Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Phil: Hey, Holly! Want to come with me to the store? Holly: On your BIKE? Phil: Sure. It's a nice day. Here's a helmet. Holly: OK! Holly: Does MOM know? Phil: Oh, right. I guess we should tell her. Holly: You go. I'll wait here. Phil: Sure. Phil: Wow. That was quite a reaction. Holly: Dang. I thought maybe YOU had some pull.
I pulled a stunt like this when I was 11 and my folks were out of town. The teenage girl next door was looking after me, and when her boyfriend came over on his motorcycle he offer to take both of us to a carnival in town. I rode on the back behind his girlfriend, and had the time of my life … until I got home and the phone rang – my folks had been calling all over wondering where I had gone. We do stupid things as kids.
