I tried cheese on a typical mousetrap. The cheese disappeared with no mouse in the trap. I switched to a cheerio glued (with muselage) to the trip plate. That worked better, but I still found tripped traps with no mouse – and the cheerio usually still in place. Then I tried sticky traps with the cheerio in the center – Finally success! After a several of those, my mouse and rat problem ended. On one I even caught a snake that came after the rat.
Interesting – I never saw scorpions around, but one brand of sticky trap was particularly attractive to them. Trying to catch a mouse in the house, I ended up catching about a dozen scorpions.
