Back in the days when I would occasionally place a wager on football with my friendly neighborhood bookie, I had a betting partner who was an Actuarial. This was the days before computers and his dining room table ( amongst other places ) was littered with spread sheets, statistical information etc. He enjoyed figuring out how to beat the spread almost as much as he did watching the game.
BTW : He eventually left his insurance actuarial position with Aetna and moved to Las Vegas to work for a Sports Book. He retired a lot wealthier and happier than if he’d stayed in the insurance business.
