Cathy: Jan's birthday was last Monday. I'll send her a card next Thursday... Mary Anne's anniversary was a month ago. I'll give her a call tomorrow... Kim's baby was born July 15. I'll shop for a gift on September 28. Mom: My daughter has been VCR'd!! Cathy: Mom?? Mom: You've been trained by your VCR to think you can choose when to experience everything! In the old days, TV shows were watched when TV shows were on. Birthdays were celebrated on the day of birth...remember? Cathy: We're busier now, mom. Mom: You're busier catching up on events you missed because you think you can simply record the event to deal with later! The VCR has wiped out centuries of etiquette! Cathy: Ho wmany cards have you sent on time this year, mom? Mom: I procrastinate. That's a completely different technology! Cathy: To do: Send mom an "I told you so" bouquet...
This is why I carry a real calendar in my purse containing all the dates I need to remember . . . and remember them ON TIME too! I consult it every Sunday to see if there’s anything coming up during the week that I need to do, buy, mail, etc. It’s like a little “bible” to me that I would be absolutely lost without — especially since my memory these days isn’t as good as it used to be!!!!!
