Humans are so easily offended and/or angered as to make it risky for a sincere employee, even one with education and insight, to be part of a dialectic conversation even if the customer and workplace isn’t busy. Perhaps Starbucks should host discussion nights and invite people to come talk about issues when people are not so busy. Some coffee shops have music and/or spoken word events, and “debate night” wouldn’t be so far out of that motif. One need be concerned that inviting public discussions of controversial issues could create risk for the employee or create conflict between customers. As hard as it is for people to be civil in forums, it can be even harder in public places where one doesn’t have the option of changing their mind before submitting or hitting the delete option.Respectfully,C.,
