A little over 20 years ago, I made a trip from Monterey, California to Bangor, Maine. The first flight was from Monterey to LAX. We arrived in time, but then had to wait about 15 minutes to be allowed to move to a spot to debark. My flight to Newark was due to take off momentarily, so they let me run up the stairs and to my plane (not too far away, luckily). Of course, I was the last to board, and they had waited. So I got all the usual looks from the passengers as I made my way to the only available seats in the back row.
That actually looked good, as I would have 3 seats to myself!
It didn’t last. A flight attendant asked if another passenger could sit in the row, as another passenger would not stop bothering him. Well, of course I said yes, wondering about this guy.
I pretty much ignored him thru the flight, although I did catch him looking at me with a puzzled look now and then. As we neared Newark, he was in conversation with the FAs who seemed to know him.
After arriving at my destination, I was up late (for east coast, but not west coast) and flipping through the late night shows. I suddenly saw the guy from the plane! And laughed because I now understood why he had been harassed and then puzzled about being ignored.
