When Marjorrhea Traitor Greed was voted by a majority of the entire House (not just Nancy Pelosi), it was a bipartisan vote and it was because she had threatened physical violence against multiple fellow members of the House. It was for cause; for very specific, very serious cause.
When the January 6 committee was formed, Speaker Pelosi asked Kevin McCarthy to nominate Republican members. Pelosi accepted all of his nominations except for those who were possible witnesses, which would make them inappropriate, and asked McCarthy to offer alternates just for those individuals. McCarthy threw a tantrum and withdrew all of his nominations in protest. Wanting bipartisan representation, Pelosi then chose from among Republicans willing to serve and who did not have a conflict or personal involvement.
Still acting like a political middle-schooler, McCarthy now wants to play a game of revenge, and remove long-standing intellectual heavyweights (Schiff and Swalwell are both previous federal prosecutors with many years of experience in the Intelligence Committee and Ilhan Omar, the only House member born in Africa, is appropriate for the African Affairs committee). The Intelligence Committee is a select committee, so McCarthy can act alone to remove Schiff and Swalwell, the experienced prosecutors. The African Affairs Committee is a standing committee and to remove Ilhan Omar would require a vote of the entire House, and a number of Republicans have already said that they will not play that game.
In the 1950’s McCarthyism was Joe “Tailgunner” McCarthy.
Today, McCarthyism 2.0 is Kevin.
Both equally ugly. Both equal threats to our Constitutional democratic republic.
