We trained ours, too. I told my husband never to give them a treat or feed them until at least 20 minutes after we got up. That way they didn’t associate getting up with getting fed. Worked pretty well!
I didn’t know why my Norwegian Elkhounds became restless at 4:38 every weekday morning. Then one morning I was on my way to an early job and arrived at a railroad crossing about a mile from my house as the train was approaching at 4:38.

We trained our dogs to sleep in everyday. Of course they are senior dogs, so sleeping is what they do best.
