Comfits are confectionery coated with sugar candy.

I had to look it up! I love candied almonds and pecans but do not know if they qualify. One definition sounds like sugar coated trail mix.

It’s actually a “kind of candy consisting of a piece of fruit, a root (like licorice) a nut or seed coated and preserved with sugar”. I have a dictionary app on my phone because I read a lot and will look up word meanings, even if I have an idea of what they mean by how it’s used in a sentence. I’m 66 and still learning new things.

I didn’t know, so I googled it. This is what it said: Comfit can refer to a type of candy, a brand of sanitary pad, a shoe, a bra, a fluid control company, or a fitness equipment company. Before looking it up, I was thinking it might be a sanitary pad.

I recall that in Alice in Wonderland she passed out comfits as prizes.

Kinda like when a three year old granddaughter looked at my wife’s driver’s license picture and said, “Gwamma, dat’s when you was ugry”.
