Apologies to any Irish readers, but today is not a big holiday. They didn’t even pay much attention to it in Ireland until they learned that their immigrants to America had blow it all out of proportion as another excuse to get drunk.
We in Kansas City have what we claim to be the 4th largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the country, behind only New York, Boston, and Chicago. (As for me, I’m half Irish and half Setter…..)
In the Bible’s New Testament, not one Believer in Jesus had “Saint” before their name. One who repents of not having Jesus first in their life and accepts Jesus the Christ’s free gift of salvation is made a Saint by the Holy Spirt. Churches cannot make anyone a saint.
Patrick wasn’t even Irish. He was a missionary to Ireland. He was a Roman Briton. His Irish name was Pádraig. That’s why some call him St. Paddy. Partying and getting drunk has no connection with Patrick and his work for Jesus. It’s not a sin to drink alcohol; but getting drunk is a sin against the body. In my volunteer work I learned this about the immune system. If a person drinks enough to be at least “legally” drunk, it takes up to 4 days for his immune system to return to normal. I used to do volunteer work with people who had HIV/AIDS.
