The Buckets by Greg Cravens for September 08, 2016

So I tried signing up for honors English today. Ms. Dale's class? Yep. It was going ok, but we hit a snag. Schedule conflicts? No. They pulled up my grades! Did you know they can just prevent you from taking advanced classes because your grades show you didn't care about schoolwork?
If anybody had checked my marks, I’d never have made it into advanced classes… which would have been a shame; the harder the material got, the higher my marks were.
The low-level courses taught little and expected even less back. The advanced courses taught interesting material, lots of it, and rewarded learning.
I’m sure lots of students failing general courses are incapable… but I wonder how many potential Ph.D.s society consigns to menial careers purely because nobody challenged them to do better?
