Look, Timmy! These cleats will be perfect for soccer season! But mom! They're used! I want new cleats! I don't want to wear some old... Those aren't just any cleats, kid! Those are my cleats! They're chock-fill of Nate Wright soccer mojo! Yup, my DNA is all over those babies. Way to close the sale.
I may be wrong about this, but I don’t think I referred to “gina brigham” in a strip where Gina actually appeared. This may have been a case in which I needed to list some random names as part of the joke I was telling. At any rate, it took me awhile to settle on a last name for Gina. I used Hemphill, I used Toms, and eventually I hyphenated them. I use last names so infrequently, I never paid much attention to them. But once I started writing the Big Nate chapter books, it was important to stay consistent with the names.
