As funny as this is, I kind of wish the comic was a little nicer to Marty. He’s such a loving dad, and the moments when he wants to spend time with Nate are always heartwarming (That is until Nate shoots him down.) He’s a lovable dork, and every good humor comic needs the lovable dork character, but that doesn’t mean he needs to be abused. Some of the best arcs in Big Nate are the ones that focus on some more serious plot points and give character development, I’d love if we could have something like that for Marty. He’s such a likable guy, and it’s so sad to think that he’s a lonely, single dad who’s own son is embarrassed by him. I’d personally love to see either an arc where he really bonds with Nate or maybe even finds a long lasting love interest, anything to give him the love he deserves.
