Maybe that’s why most caterpillars are green.

I discovered caterpillars and butterflies were the same species as young as 3 thanks to my mother, an empty jar and some leaves.

Oh – and some all important airholes in the lid!

And who proved this for science? Anybody? Maria Sibylla Merian.

I had a pet caterpillar when I was six. Willy. I carried Willy in my jeans front pocket. One day I reached in and Willy was squashed. To this day I cannot eat or even look at peanut butter and jelly.

Good morning Pickled Pete! I’ve been flying around this morning like a butterfly. I’m juggling tax season and my parents medical appointments without having a breakdown, so all is going pretty dang well. I’m owing most of my sanity to reading comics and the good people who are here for grins and giggles. I hope you’re released from ghost jail soon. ☺️☺️❤️❤️

That’s not surprising. I believe that until the microscope was invented, people thought that babies came from fully formed humans on sperm.

An army of caterpillars won’t do your leafy plants any good

An army of caterpillars suggests 10s of thousands of caterpillars. If you personally only see a few together, it’s probably a squad of caterpillars. Maybe even a battalion of caterpillars….

Is there a committee that is the official responsible for making up these group names?

Everybody was too busy gathering food, drinking beer, and recovering from the current pandemic disease to spend time on insect research.

After Starship Troopers, it’s easy to see armies of every type of insect

And until the 17th century, they believed barnacle geese started life as actual barnacles.

Scientists considered rabbits to be rodents, until 1937. Nothing stays the same in science. New data leads to new understanding all of the time.

Ok, Pete, now that I’ve figured out how to read your profile (something of a dinosaur here)…yes, I would like to hear about beef gelatin. And I’m waiting hopefully for you to come back.
