That’s basically what Gus said to Arlo, and that’s basically what Arlo is doing in the last panel. His wife and family are his life.

Getting ready to move from “our last house” to a smaller place with more land. My wife wants to plant a permaculture “edible forest garden” and do educational tours. There are also about 800 mature blueberry bushes, the place has been a U-pick for almost two decades.

I have to wonder how much this parallels JJ’s actual life. We know he is retiring (well, he said he was), and maybe this is the fight he is going through in real life.

I expect a “Blessing Out” is a “Cussing Out” without the bad words… ☺

Nothing cryptic. Gus opened up and gave Arlo some very needed advice. Gus learned the hard way that hesitation, self doubt, and second guessing will kill you. If the thing you have been searching for falls in your lap, grab it. Arlo got the message.

Unfortunately, your reaction and mine are correct.

Sometimes this strip is really whacked out with insider “gags”.

Gus “blessed out” Arlo. In other words, Arlo received a scolding. I think this must be a Southern term.

“Blessing out”? Is that a southern colloquialism of some sort? It seems to me to be akin to a bit of a “dressing down”. Is that an accurate correlation? Unless I hear from some of you of a more accurate explanation, that is my presumption, I guess.
