My late boy cat would race to the door, leap up, and lick and nuzzle me to pieces whenever I came home. I so miss his effusive affection. (His twin sister is attached to my face & left arm right now – but she does not lick me.)
Historically with all my cats the length of time I was away makes the difference in how I’m greeted when I come back. The other factor is how close to dinner time it is when I get there.
Cats try to give you the impression that they didn’t even notice you were gone. Oh, were you out? they’ll say, I didn’t notice. Then they’ll raise their tails to show you their little puckered an*ses and walk away." Blaize Clement (1932-2011)

Our little “Bluebottle” black cat would greet us on the front porch when we arrived home, doing a little happy dance.

They are probably thinking how nice and quiet it was a few minutes ago.

It’s hard to remember that being mooned by a cat is a sign of affection.
