It’s good to get a definition of the relationship early on written down and maybe even put into a contract. A contract relationship is so romantic.

They’re friends? They just recently met and just barely know each other.

I prefer Philann, it sounds better. Looks like Luann is still scared of being in a relationship with someone. The way the one with Quill ended made her extremely cautious, but fortunately Phil seems determined to gain her trust, even if it will take a long time. It will be nice to see him slowly conquer her trust.

Is this what “friends with benefits” means? Because if so, must have a lot of them.

Sometimes it does happen that quickly.

When two people have been kissing and they both want to continue it, they’re in an (early-stage) relationship. Phil sees that more clearly than Luann. But she should embrace that reality, all the more because she’s the one who took the initiative (gasp!) with the first kiss – which really gets a guy’s attention.

However, guys are more likely to presume that a very early-stage relationship will continue as a steady thing. Girls may more likely engage in smooching while keeping their options open about whether they’ll keep it up much longer.

Hopefully that wasn’t Phil putting Luann into the “Friend Zone.” He is correct though; they are friends and need to start out this potential relationship as friends and let it grow from there. Good luck lovebirds!

Now it got stupid. Luann kisses Phil. He kisses her back. She asks if they’re in a relationship. He says yes because they’re friends, but kissing is still okay. This sounds like a “friends with benefits” situation to me, no longer a sweet love story, just a blood drive hook up. Oh well.

What is it with women’s obsession over other people’s relationships? … feeling inferior because they don’t have one of their own?

As an FYI, to be a CNA, you need (in Canada, at least) 3,000 HOURS of training on top of K-12 schooling, and I assume a college like a Bachelor of Arts or something.

So is Phil 24 or 25, or did he just graduate K-12 and post-secondary early, and is also 19, like Luann?

Wouldn’t people who liked each other and kissed consider themselves dating, even though it would be too soon to consider themselves in a relationship? I don’t think being “friends” would be the default definition. I don’t really see this strip going for Friends with Benefits and in any case that implies much more than a kiss.

Ugh, I see we’re back to everyone acting like middle-schoolers.

Wow, this just blew two character back 30 years! Luann being happy triggers Tiff back to her carry HD days, and Luann, after fretting for a decade over wanting a man, has one who is intellectually throwing himself at her, and she says “nope, but I’ll use you.” This is very dissapointing to me.

Looks as if Tiff is taking an interest in PhilAnnthropy.

Fortunately for Luann, it appears that Phil is not a “take-able” sort of fellow no matter how hard Tiffany tries to do so.

Unlike Kip, who seems to follow whomever gives the most “womanly” attention…. Phil appears more focused on forming a full relationship with some depth. That is why Kip meanders back and forth between Steph and Tiffany, IMO.

Phil appears to be (IMO) the most wise of the prospective boyfriends that Luann has ever considered…1. Aaron was just a “pretty boy” infatuation with him having limited substance.

2. Gunther, albeit smart (bookwise) was not adept relationship wise at the time Luann and he interreacted regularly.

3. Quill (blech) was bland, and his whole character basically served as a “reflection” of Luann’s thoughts.

4. And, Jack was more akin to a “puppy” of sorts who was game for a relationship at times, but was not as fully fleshed out enough as a character to fit the bill.

Phil, by contrast, seems a much more whole and complete person for Luann, and while he will arguably have faults too, he seems a more “real” a romantic interest for Luann than we have really seen before.

If they’re friends, they shouldn’t kiss. Lovers and sweethearts kiss. Friends keep an arm’s length between them. Kissing between friends leads to misunderstandings and broken hearts, and eventually the loss of friendship.

Phil is so right about friendship. When I think of being in a relationship, I automatically think of it as a romantic relationship.
